Our house was destroyed by a fire In May 2008. Burke’s Restoration was initially hired by our insurance company to retrieve our memorabilia after the fire. Burkes Restoration was also the company chosen to dismantle the house almost completely to its foundation. When it came to rebuild, we had three restoration companies to choose from, all recommended by our insurance company. After interviewing the companies and checking their references, we chose Burke’s Restoration. It was the best choice we could have made! The work done by them was superb. Our house was beautiful before, but now it is even better. The quality of workmanship was exceptional. We were able to select all the materials that went into the house making it a truly custom built home! We are especially thankful to Munro, our foreman, who was always the consummate professional and the work that he produced was outstanding. We also want to thank Nick, Joseph, Will, Norman, John and Barry for the excellent work that they did in rebuilding our home. Nick and Joseph were a constant during the reframing of the house and they worked very hard. John and Barry worked tirelessly on our dry wall and produced wonderful results. Will was a master with his painting skills and Norm produced all of our great built-ins in our closets. We would also like to thank Colleen and Pat for the exceptional job they did on salvaging many of our keepsakes which were irreplaceable. It was a wonderful surprise when we moved back in the house to receive all our memorabilia, including the contents of over 250 photo albums, all cleaned, restored and organized.
The house has been completed for just over two months now and we are still marvelling at what a spectacular new home we now have. We are grateful to Gary Burke and his dedicated team of craftsmen for their spectacular workmanship! We have no hesitation in recommending Burke’s Restoration.

Acknowledging good service is a rare but welcome opportunity. This story began when our basement flooded – the gas water heater ruptured – and quickly filled the basement with water that was 4” deep in some areas. The walls and insulation were badly damaged and quickly developed mold. Because I did not decide whether or not to file an insurance claim (vs dealing directly with Direct Energy) for over a week, Randy Broadworth inherited a more situation that was more complex than it should have been.
I believe that it is the practices and behaviours of personnel that determine whether a project is successful, beginning with the leader. Randy Broadworth led this effort and he put me at ease right away, laid out the process and schedule, engaged his crew, and then delivered. I really appreciated Randy’s brief stops to check on things. It gave me assurance that his team was very much concerned about customer service and a successful work effort.
I also want to compliment the ‘crew’ for their commitment to excellence. Both Keith Brown and Barry Crowder obviously had extensive experience and showed personal pride in the finished product. I especially appreciated Barry Crowder and his efficient, meticulous, high-quality work. He arrived early every day and promptly set to work getting my basement back into shape. He’s very diligent and obviously loves his work – I don’t think he likes to take breaks. Needless to say, I didn’t have to worry about the outcome of the work effort.
Randy, and his crew, far exceeded my expectations in every way – they demonstrated the utmost concern for our needs, and exhibited a high-level of professionalism and expediency that resulted in some really nice work. I would like to send this note of thank you. I am completely satisfied with all the work, attention to detail and the time it took to complete everything.
When I first noticed the water and odour in my basement and made my call to CAA insurance, I was a bit apprehensive of the outcome. Although from that initial phone call and the follow up from there on, all my worries were quickly put to rest.
Randy: From when you first came out and assessed the water damage you were very professional and helpful with all my concerns and questions. I explained to you my unique situation currently going on here at home and you were compassionate and caring to help with those needs. I am so grateful you quickly removed all the damaged carpet and walls. You did a great job sealing everything off and you did it quickly and with no mess. But what really eased my mind was when you stayed an extra hour to help me when the City of Vaughan water department came out. I appreciate that you stayed longer than you had to and re arranged your schedule to do so. You went above and beyond to assist me.
Looking at my new basement I have to say how pleased I am. The paint, the carpet and the drywall look amazing. Rocco "the painter" was quite the character. I enjoyed having him here everyday. He was such a pleasant funny man. I could truly see he really enjoyed his profession. He was clean, considerate of our space and home and very helpful. I have to admit, I have had my home painted in the past, but this was the first time I did not have to go clean up after the "painter". Rocco did such an amazing job cleaning up after himself and not leaving any residue behind. He took such great pride in his work.
I would also like to thank Holland Landing Carpets, from Chris up to the installers. They were very quick, clean and did an amazing job with the installation. Everything looks fabulous.
I am most happy that we met our projections date of August 28, 2009. It went smoothly and without any problems. That is by far the most important concern I had from the beginning.
Randy, knowing my son's medical condition and my own health issues and surgery, you met all the target dates and you followed up every step of the way. You kept me in the loop and informed me of who was coming into our home and how long it would take to complete the project. It was nice coming home after my surgery knowing everything was completed.
Peace of mind! That is exactly what you gave me.
Thank you again and hopefully I will never have to go through this again but if I do, Burkes restoration and your team will be the first I request.

Hello Gary:
Through my insurance company, I recently engaged your firm to make repairs to my house because of extensive water damage.
I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how pleased I am with the work all your folks have done, and in particular, the great job that Scott McGroarty did in leading the project and the team.
In the past, my experience with home builders, renovation firms and trades people has not been particularly positive. I have found them to be generally unreliable and their work lacking in quality. Unfortunately, overpromising and under-delivering seemed to be the standard. Not surprisingly, without knowing your firm or its reputation, I was naturally expecting more of the same.
But with Burkes, I am very happy to tell you that my experience with him was the exact opposite. Right from day one, Scott was on top of the job. He called me in advance of the project to co-ordinate timing and logistics for his people. He told me when he would be at my house and sure enough, he was there. In the days that followed, if he was caught in traffic, he called to let me know he would be a bit late and when he would be there (and he was). I was never left wondering if someone was going to show up or not.
Each day, he would tell me what he was going to do and then he would call at the end of day to confirm that what he said he was going to happen actually happened. In addition, it quickly became apparent to me that he would do even more than what he promised, which actually put the project ahead of schedule (which I have never ever experienced before).
When he needed something or a decision from me, he gave me enough lead time so that I never felt pressured or concerned that my decision making process would hold up the repairs.
As for the quality of the work, my sense is that Burkes Restoration has very high standards and I am completely confident the work the team have done is top notch. So much so, in fact, that I am sure my house is in even better shape now than before the water damage.
To say that I am impressed with your firm and, in particular with Scott, is an understatement. I have already told countless friends and family about my experience and I would recommend Burke’s Restoration without hesitation. I certainly intend on writing a letter to my insurance company to let them know what a great job your firm did and how happy I am with the process and the results.

Hi Gary, we just wanted to send you a quick note to say thanks for the work your team did on our bathroom renovation. Doug deserves a big thanks for the excellent work that he did and managing to accommodate the many requests from us as we moved through the renovation. He took the time to explain what he was doing and also made sure we were aware of any deviations that needed to be made due to unknown's. Thankfully those were very few. When we asked him to add an additional receptacle after he had replaced some of the drywall, he did it without a second thought. He knew what he was doing and did everything in a very professional manner.
We also wanted to thank Gary who came in after the majority of work was completed (on a miserable snowy day) and cleaned the hall carpets to perfection. We'll have to arrange for Gary's return to clean some of our other carpets that previously needed cleaning. Pam's already talking about renovating our other bathroom upstairs.
I thought I would include some before, during and after pictures so you could see the great transformation. We're very pleased and will be sure to mention Burkes to any of our friends that are considering a renovation or need someone to handle some insurance work.

My husband and I should like to commend your restoration team (in particular, Glenn and Allan) in doing such a great job in repairing the damage caused to our ceilings. Not only was the repair work really well done but each evening the area was thoroughly cleaned (and accessible) which enabled us to maintain our day-to-day activities. Re Water Damage –
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for the excellent job they did on my home. As you are aware I had a water damage claim resultant from the water softener in my basement rupturing. This caused damage to the majority of the basement area, including the area where I work.
On the date of the loss, I contacted Clarke Burke, of your Toronto office. This was an extremely busy time for the insurance industry and contractors specifically due to the extremely wet summer we experienced last year. Clarke arranged for Gary Selman to attend and assist me with the emergency clean up. Gary worked with me for two days and was courteous, helpful and extremely professional.
Dean Bye was assigned to my claim and attended my home with an independent adjuster to inspect the damage and prepare an estimate.
I delayed the work until approximately January, 2009. I worked with Dean Bye, my estimator who handled my claim with “kit gloves”. I decided to do some additional work and install a basement apartment. Dean worked hard to prepare a plan and assure me that the necessary repairs would go smoothly and that Burke’s was here to help me.
Dean followed up on a regular basis, ALWAYS returned my phone calls and kept me informed. Dean made the process much less stressful than I had anticipated. He is always professional, courteous and most accommodating. Dean shows that he truly cares about the customer and is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
No detail was too small and he always, always followed up. Good customer service is very rare today, and I am very grateful to Dean for the way in which he handled my claim and dealt with me.
I very much appreciate being treated “like family” and will always be grateful for that.
The staff that worked in my home included John Mackintosh,Brad Vanword, and Kyle Heon the majority of the time. There were a number of other staff that also did an excellent job. These three men were in my house for approximately 1-1/2 months each and every day of the week. They were always courteous, polite and did an excellent job. I never worried that I had strangers in my home and grew very fond of each of them. They always helped whenever they could and often went above and beyond their duties.
John Mackintosh is an excellent tradesman, he is hard working, level headed and articulate. He is an asset to your firm and did a wonderful job! I appreciate how lucky I was to have had a licensed carpenter work in my home.
Kyle Heon was always upbeat, hardworking and extremely helpful. My 82 year old Mother lives with me and I never had to worry about leaving her alone in the house with the staff from Burke’s.
Brad Vanword, did an excellent job, went over and above the call of duty and I realize how lucky I was to have a licensed Electrician with his Masters working on my home. He was always willing to help. Brad is a huge asset to your firm and I am thrilled with the work done in my home.
I am confident that the work done by all of your staff was top notch. I realize how lucky I was to have had the “cream of the crop” working in my home and coordinating the project. I thank you very much for that.
Being in the insurance industry, we know how traumatizing a claim can be. Your staff made the entire experience a pleasant one and I will always be grateful to Burke’s for that.
I am thrilled with the workmanship, follow up and general caring and concern of your staff.
Good customer service is difficult to come by today, but your staff clearly know what it is all about!

Dear Tony and the entire Burke’s crew,
When we were making our decision whether or not to go with Burke's we visited your website and read the many glowing testimonials. At the time we thought they were a bit “over the top” and wondered if they had been written by relatives and friends. Cynical us! It wasn’t long before we realized that if anything, they had been too modest in their praise.
And now the story… We were at our cottage in Quebec just starting to settle in for some relaxing time. It was 11:30 on a Sunday night in July when the phone rang. On the other end of the line was the person who checks our house for us and she was hysterical and in great distress—she had come by to check the house and had been greeted by water pouring out the front door and running down from the ceiling, down the stairs and soaking floors. Adrian talked her through turning off the main water shutoff, and with the help a friendly neighbour who was on his front porch who came over to help, she calmed down. After a bit more checking, we asked her to lock up and she left. It was now midnight and after Adrian got in the car and left for the 7 hour drive to Toronto I immediately phoned and talked to our insurance company.
By Monday afternoon Tony was on site inspecting the damage and determining what needed to be done to help us. By Tuesday morning a crew of workers was dispatched to our house and work was underway. The initial assessment was done by the insurance company and Burke's was on the scene. Tony, who would become our cheerleader and supporter over the next months organized the initial demolition and removal of carpets and ruined items. As almost 70% of the house had been seriously affected, it was going to be a massive job. Huge fans and dehumidifiers appeared. A 40 ft. dumpster that had been delivered to our driveway also quickly began to fill.
Soon another wonderful crew was on site to inventory and pack up thousands of books and household items and to help us throw away everything that couldn’t be saved. A storage cube for salvageable items was delivered to the driveway to join the dumpster. We were in shock and everyone connected to the clean up operation seemed to have been trained to deal calmly and patiently with people in our situation.
Once the emergency clean up and demolition was completed we had to decide who we wanted to do the restoration work. We did meet with several contractors who would have been able to start the job sooner but after dealing with Burke's we realized that none of them even came close in terms of professionalism, communication, or skill.
By the time the restoration work started we had lived in chaos for some time and were pretty well worn down. Tony encouraged us and frequently reminded us that we were going to love the house again when it was finally finished.
Alan was assigned to the project and for the next few months we knew that at 8 a.m. we would see him and many of the other workers assigned to the job coming through the front door. As well as Alan, there was Steve, Ryan and many, many others who contributed long hours of labour to our reconstructed house.
To work in a small house with the retired residents on site and underfoot most of the time requires extraordinary skills beyond those normally found. We were amazed at the sensitivity, good humour and willingness to keep us updated and involved in the ongoing decision making. Alan, who was on the job from the beginning to the very end, went way beyond what could possibly be expected from anyone who wasn't a member of our family. As the house took shape again it was really miraculous to see something so beautiful come out of such a disaster.
Over the months, many sub trades were also involved who were organized by Burke's. Everything was done to the highest specifications.
We do love the house now that it’s finished. We feel very lucky to have had Burke's on our side all the way.

In May the house attached to me caught on fire and my house had extensive smoke damage. Thank god I had the crew from Burkes there to make this as good of an experience as it could have been. To Whom it may concern, we had a basement flood in our home in December and Burke's Restoraton was the contractor who helped us with the issues caused by the flood from a faulty water heater. Randy Broadworth came the same day to assess the situation and helped empty and repack the some of the many boxes we had stored downstairs. Several of the boxes contained a Barbie Doll Collection which my daughter has been collecting since she was 7 years old. She is and adult now and is ready to sell them to a collector so of course we were very worried about them being in wet cartons.
Randy Broadworth, Barry Crowder and Garry Selman worked tirelessly until late in the evening to make sure all the wet cartons were removed from the house as well as the wet carpets and underpad. They also employed a contractor to install a new water heater as this is what caused the water damage in the first place. I do not know who that company was the the two men were also very quick to install the heater and the younger gentleman went beyond the call of duty to clean up and open the drain which was plugged with dust that poured into it with the water from under the furnace and old water heater. Another gentleman names Steve L. was also very kind, helpful and courteous. Each job was done quickly and without any distress to us during the time it took for each job done. We spoke with each of them as they finished their part of the clean up and thanked them for their help and prompt service.
We believe that Contractors like these guys deserve to hear that they are not only appreciated but valuable in todays society where everyone is in such a hurry to do a poor job so they can quickly leave the site they are working on. There were others who helped us through this 3 week dilema and I am not sure of all their names but please be advised that we are very, very pleased with the services your restoration company provided and would not hesitate to refer to to our friends in future. Thanks again for taking the time to hire contractors who are diligent and proud of the work they do. Mike is a truly remarkable man because he did awesome job in restoring our house. I thought I'd send a quick note regarding your employee Tim Messenger.
Over the last several months Tim has been Burke Restorations' lead on our repairs. The process has not been an easy one but Tim's personality, professionalism and knowledge during your kitchen restoration made the project a success.
Due to the nature of having improper installation of the original granite counter top, the removal resulted in unexpected damage to the cabinets. Having Tim there to evaluate and respond to this situation, the cabinets were repaired on site allowing the granite supplier to install the new counter top. With out this problem being solved immediately it would have forced the granite supplier to return at his next available opportunity, 3 week wait. Having a make shift kitchen at the time, I was greatly relieved to have a finished project.
Employees like Tim are hard to find and such dedication to customer service should be recognized.

Your ‘crew’ did a fabulous job with the basement repair work – we truly cannot tell the difference between the damaged and repaired areas. The quality of the workmanship (which is actually a bit better than the original) was great, the colour matching is perfect and the overall condition of the carpets and baseboards which were cleaned and repaired during the process was excellent.
I would also like to add that they did a great job tidying the area at the end of each day – after having had similar work done in the past I can’t tell you how important this was to us and to once again emphasize how professional and considerate the team was.

Hey Tony… I just wanted to send a quick note to thank-you for all your work over the past 7 months!!! The day I came home in October 2007 to find out I had a flood was probably one of the worst times I have had in my home! Within an hour of calling my insurance you had your team there to remediate any damage that could be taken care of. I couldn’t believe it. 1 HOUR… Once you got there you took control, walked me through my basement and made me aware of everything that you could see and that would need to be done. You were up front, honest and too the point! Not to mention clean-up was done, dehumidifiers were brought in and a negative air fan. You also told me not to worry and that everything would be taken care of.
After the initial clean-up and walk through was done it was in the adjustor’s/insurance hands to advise. This took over 1 month to iron out as my insurance company had another restoration company come and quote on the same job. During this time you kept in contact with me, told me what was going on and never kept me out of the loop. You were helping Lisa and I through a very tough time!
Well it turned out that the other company was chosen over Burke’s, well I didn’t approve and asked to go over the quote with the other company. Well it turned out that this company did not quote what was supposed to be done…i.e. sub floor, drywall, plumbing etc. After I went through this with the adjustor and other company I found this all out and advised that I was concerned! Therefore the adjustor asked that this company re-quote on the job according to building code. Well I’m glad I did that because now the 2 quotes were in line and the choice was now mine to be made…I CHOOSE BURKES!!!
And I’m glad I did! The work Chad and Jim did on our basement is fabulous!! I can’t even put it into words. Every little detail was taken care of. Chad was always there to answer my questions… and if he wasn’t able too Tony would take care of it. Everyone who I dealt with at Burke’s was great and I hope I never have to go through this again but if it does I will be calling your company!

My wife and I are very pleased with the work your team of guys has produced in our house. When you first came to do the estimate for the water damage to our family room and upstairs bedroom, you mentioned that you treat every job as if it was your own house. This attitude is very well reflected in the efforts of the men you have working for you.
You were extremely kind in adjusting your schedules to have the guys start the work as soon as the insurance company approved the claim so that at least our family room was livable for Christmas. Also, when we had a family death, your guys were flexible to give us time to cope. When the crunch time came to get the family room finished before Christmas, Allen Derr put in extra hours and on the Friday, you brought in an extra painter and two men to install the hardwood floor.

In July of 2006, we experienced a tragedy in our home. In our main floor laundry room, the water hoses from the washing machine burst and flooded our laundry room and most of our finished basement, which was our pride and joy.
On the advice of a family friend, we called Burke’s Restoration for help. Within a day, the owner of the company, Gary Burke was over to our house, had large drying machines brought into our basement and the clean up began.
Gary dealt with the insurance company in the most professional manner, and his work crew was at the house with haste and competency.
